But My Child Won't Relax!

I have an incredible story to share with you.

I have a 5 year old yoga student who is extraordinary at relaxation.  It’s remarkable.  She relaxes more easily than most adults I know!  She doesn’t flinch, and lets me do all the work to uncover her feet for massage, while leaving her legs and body incredibly limp.  In each class, about 5 minutes before savasana, she quietly asks: “is relaxation soon?!”  It’s her favourite.  I had never seen this in a young student before, until our first class together.

Seriously, what is kids yoga?!

Kids doing yoga.  You’ve heard about it, but honestly you have no idea what on earth it is.  Because if someone is very softly asking your child to reach up to the golden sun while saying: “I am a soft dove floating through the sky and radiating peace”, that will NEVER HAPPEN.

The Benefits of Classroom Yoga

It has been said that during the first 6 weeks of the school year, parents, teachers, and children are wise to have “ultimate grace, ultimate compassion, and ultimate acceptance” on all that goes down. In my own personal opinion, that person forgot to mention: “and do lots of yoga!”

It’s in times like the start of school that I remember why i’m doing the work I do. Helping you grow healthy, balanced kids (who are resilient and self-aware) through yoga and mindfulness. Yoga for kids greatly aids in challenging transitions like starting a new school year.

Train Pose (Dandasana)

 

Whether or not you plan to actually jump on a locomotive this fall, you can easily board this train right in the comfort of your living room! What you can expect is connection to your family, a song or two, and a trip as wild as your imagination!

Kids love train pose. It’s benefits include: a strong core and spinal muscles, improved posture, stretches the shoulders and chest, and calms the brain.  Train pose allows children to check in with their posture, and who can’t resist and giggles and fun of snuggling close to your family members all while chugging down the railroad track!
